Business and Trade School develops from Department of Economics and Management in Vocational Education Faculty of Ningbo University, founded in 1993. At present, the school has three departments: International Trade, Management and Marketing, giving nine higher vocational diploma programs: International Trade and Economy, International Business, Declaration and International Freight Forwarding, Logistics Management, Business Management, Marketing, E-commerce and Business Management. Now there are more than 2,300 full-time students and 47 members of staff including 37 full-time teachers, 13 associate professors, 3 PhD-level teachers, and 20 Master-level teachers, 32 teachers who have gained both teaching and vocational qualification certificates.
The school has set up its developing objectives:
- offering quality skilled special graduates for local economy and social development of Ningbo, Zhejiang as well as Yangtze River Delta;
- stabilizing the existing scale;
- enhancing content construction, improving its teaching quality;
- striving to be a secondary school with distinctive features and influence.
- The graduates are expected to have good professional quality, strong vocational competences and professional knowledge.

- developing mode of school-enterprise cooperation and combination of production, teaching and research to further deepen the training mode reform,
- improving teachers’ teaching and research ability to create advantageous projects of Business and Trade School.
Years of hard work of all the faculty has brought elementary achievements in the reform of training mode and mass project-oriented teaching pattern in order to comprehensively improve teaching quality. So far, we have constructed one provincial high-quality courses, five collegiate excellent courses and 19 project-oriented courses. Our teachers have finished three volumes of characteristic textbooks sponsored by Ningbo Municipal Education Bureau. Further, our students have won a first-prize in Cross-strait International Trade Simulating Contest, a second and a third prizes in Logistics Design Competition held by Ningbo Education Bureau. Our school’s Logistics Training Room was named as a qualified training base of Zhejiang Province.
Our school actively explores new training mode of combining study and work and school-enterprise cooperation. We have established some “2+1” school-enterprise cooperation classes with Ningbo Branch of China People's Insurance Company and other 20 companies in order to connect graduate employment and working practice. Our school has also set up Kowloon City College Branch with Zhejiang Kowloon International Logistics Co., Ltd. This is the first working-practice base in school for business students in Ningbo integrating teaching function and operation to offer a genuine working-practice environment for students. The base embodies a teaching mode of integrating teaching, studying and working.
With the principle of developing teaching and research ability to serve local economic development, we, in the past three years, have conducted 49 research projects of bureau level or above, published more than 200 academic papers, and conducted or participated in publishing 15 textbooks. We have also set up a research institute of "Modern Service Industry Development" with Development Research Centre of Ningbo Municipal People's Government, which have already completed and undertaken 19 projects relating to governmental decision-making consultation. We also have been awarded more than 40 millions yuan for construction, and finished and undertaken 10 construction projects relating to applied talent training base in Economic Management and Trade, Finance and Insurance, Port Logistics and Tourism Exhibition.
To meet the demand of graduates with higher vocational education for 21st century’s economic development, our school has been actively seeking for years a training mode, based on a course system of “Platform + Module”, of double-certificated system, that is, graduates from NCC should gain a diploma of NCC and a certificate of relative vocational position training. We persist in the education concept of employment -oriented, quality-centered, and characteristic-oriented development. Now the business and trade vocational education in our school has entered a new developing stage of quality development.
